Kibin.com is an essay editing service that has attracted a lot of attention since it was launched. The reason for that? Smart website design, plenty of promises and great marketing. The hype got me interested and I expected great things from this service.
I must admit, the website got me hooked and I expected to start collaborating with a talented editor with relevant knowledge in the niche (the paper explored the art in the 17th century). The results were not impressive.
Kibin.com provides editing and proofreading services separated in these categories: academics, students, authors, business, ESL, and personal (this section includes and proofreading services for cover letters and resumes).
You can also browse the services by need, but this is the part where the website starts looking shady. In this list, you get pointless keywords such as: grammar checker, fix my paper, fix my essay, essay correction, essay editor, essay revisor, check my writing, book editor, proofread my paper, proofread my essay… the list goes on and on. How can this list be named as services?
You have to enter your email address or connect with Facebook in order to get a price quote. As soon as I entered the email address, I started getting one message after another. All I wanted was a price quote, but I had to deal with loads of spam instead.
The fact that you cannot see the prices at the website is a huge drawback. In addition, I should mention that the company charges $2 per reference, so the final price is significantly increased as a result.
Anyway, I ended up paying almost $100 to get my research paper of 2300 words edited. If you want a cheaper option, you can choose the deadline of 72 hours; and the shortest deadline offered is 24 hours. If your document is shorter than 1000 words, you can choose a deadline of 3, 6 or 12 hours.
There is a long article in the blog section explaining that Kibin’s system counts fewer words than Microsoft Word and other editing services; a policy that saves your money. In practice, Kibin.com is more expensive than most top-rated services.
The ordering process is unnecessarily complicated. In order to find out how much your paper is going to cost, you will need to provide a valid email address and upload the document. There is a slider that lets you estimate the price according to the number of words in your document and the deadline you are willing to provide. The company is going to charge for the paper before assigning it to an editor.
The worst part is that the representatives of the customer support system are not always around to assist you through the ordering process. Given the fact that the website is too confusing, I ended up spending more than an hour to place a single order.
Contact with the Writer
The editor was not available for contact. In addition, the agents of the customer support were also absent whenever I tried to contact them. All I could do was cross my fingers and wait for the paper to arrive.
The edited paper was ready on time, but the service I got was proofreading; not editing! There is a significant difference between these two services and it seems that the “editors” at Kibin.com haven’t realized what their customers need. I’m sorry to say that this website is not worthy of attention.
